At COP30, Global Carbon Council and Burkina Faso Partner to Strengthen National Carbon Market Infrastructure

The Global Carbon Council (GCC) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Environment, Water and Sanitation at COP30 to operationalize the country’s national carbon market infrastructure under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement, with the West African Alliance for Carbon Markets and Climate Finance (WAA) providing technical and capacity-building support. The partnership will establish a sovereign and interoperable national carbon registry using GCC’s Article 6.2 Carbon Market Infrastructure—covering project registration, transaction tracking, and a customized national registry—enabling Burkina Faso to mobilize results-based climate finance through ITMO transactions. Signed by Dr. Yousef Alhorr and Minister Roger Baro, the agreement underscores a shared commitment to high-integrity carbon markets, enhanced climate governance, and accelerated sustainable development.
